Okay regular slayers of late season elk, help me decide. My November hunt follows multiple archery and gun seasons so the herds will be skittish as can be. I am debating between hauling a heavy Ameristep Doghouse blind around in search of a decent watering hole with fresh sign versus building natural blinds in locations as I find them. Taking weather out of the equation (largely because I have adequate clothing for any weather and partially because I am worried about the Doghouse making noise in windy conditions) would it be smarter and stealthier to create natural ground blinds whenever I find a good looking spot and hunt em based on what I see? I would be cutting the weight I carry by 10-11lbs, could utilize the natural topography to my advantage rather than seek a suitable place to set up the Doghouse (which may be much more conspicuous) and can build blinds in multiple locations. For you veterans of late season hunts...what's the best move? I'll be in Unit 10 near Flagstaff mid November. Average daytime high 52*, average low 18* and 1.81" of rain (meaning some rain during my 2 weeks but half what is normal in Aug). I fully expect there will be water and feed everywhere so just finding a herd may be tough. It was last season even during the 1st season.
