Alright ladies and gents! The time has come to rummage through those old shoe boxes grandpa gave you and dig out those artifacts! I know many of us here are history nerds with a deep reverence for the land and men who walked these trails before us. The connection to land and place is a powerful thing and must be preserved.

So let’s see those atlatl darts, metate and mano sets Grandma used to prop open the screen door, big biface flakes, or anything related to our past.

Chief Wild Hog drew this same horse on paper during his time in prison. Good chance that he was also the artist on the sandstone wall. Too bad some one had to put a brand on it.

Beautiful examples, dude! I’ll see your pictographs, and I’ll raise ya a few more. archeologists from the local university have said it is depicting the creation of man.View attachment 1077618View attachment 1077620View attachment 1077621View attachment 1077622
Some times I wounder about archaeologists interpretation of pictographs. There is a fairly common one that archaeologists say represents the prairie walker or prairie witch. Looks like 200 year old porn to me. I don't have a picture, but @Greenhorn might sill.

Hayes, you’re in luck! Because I’m actually a subject matter expert at Paleolithic era pornography. Let’s see those carvings…..”For research purposes.”

I agree, interpretation is only as valid as the man making it. Truth is, most of the time, it’s guesswork to build the frame of understanding as best we can. Better than a poke in the eye, I guess?

Knowing human nature, porn is a pretty good guess. “Look! Ogg draw picture of time when Ogg boink Oonah! Ogg put on cave wall. Ogg call it Pin Up!”

I found this in ‘99 in SW Washington when the lake I lived in dried up. No idea what it is but it fits so perfectly in my hand that it had to be used for something. Also found a couple arrowheads that year but never a whole one

I think the prairie is likely accurate, but I do like to poke a little fun at archaeologists when I get a chance.
