NAS3 5.56 Cases - Tikka 223 w/ 88 TMK

This whole thread is about loading 88 grain bullets last I looked.

No…? It’s specifically about TMK’s; it’s in the title. That’s why I was confused, and the guy after your post asked about the cartridge and twist- people thought you meant that you saw a TMK come apart.

88gr ELD-M’s coming apart randomly is nothing new- TMK’s don’t do that.

These NAS3 cases are strange birds. I messed with them about a year ago, and several of us running strait pull AR's had extraction issues with very light loads. So, I'm guessing they run them small so they cycle well in gassed AR's. My next experiment is trying them in my now 223ai chamber (still a no-gas strait-pull AR). They have a light crush fit, so no headspace issues, and I'm hoping that as the cases expand to the ai chamber, that they'll actually leave enough space to extract easily, however unlikely. If it actually works out I might have a very fast 223ai. FWIW

No, I’m done with it. My regular 223 88 TMK load is a 700 yard capable gun. No need to mess round more.
@B_Reynolds_AK, if you are still interested in gaining a little speed with what you’ve got, you might try LVR in your regular brass. 25.5gr gets me to 2830fps out of a 19” Tikka factory barrel with the 77s. It is a little temperature sensitive over about 90*, but would probably be fine up in your weather. Just a thought…

That’s pretty impressive. Makes it hard to want to burn 60% more powder to gain 300-ish FPS (10-11%) — e.g., 22CM, 22-250, etc. That’s a killer setup.

I could be wrong. But my experience with the LC brass and Lever has been pretty eye opening.

I can only speak to the 77’s in a .223, but I had them at 2850fps in 16” barrel at moa ish for 10 shots. Primers seated fine for a subsequent firing on same brass. I haven’t shot them a third time because it’s my wife rifle and stopped messing with it. But 3 firings for .15c brass and that type of speed adds up for me. I got heavy bolt lift at 27gr / 2900fps with lever in that gun.

With my 223ai, Im 100% confident in sending the 88tmks at 2750 minimum from 16” barrel. There’s a good chance it’s 2800+. I just haven’t had the chance yet to shoot with lever this summer in heat to verify how hard I can push. But with formed 223ai LC brass and 27gr lever 2.5” OAL .090” off lands, 80* ambient temps in the shade, I shot this group of 3 for 2810 fps average. That brass has been reloaded and ready to fire. The extra grain plus of capacity makes a big difference in these small cartridges.
