N. Carolina Black bear.......really that big?

Was just watching a hunting show the other day and the guy killed a black bear in Alaska then made the comment......"This is a good black bear but not nearly as big as a N. Carolina Black Bear"........Ive lived in N. Carolina all my life. Are our Black Bears really the biggest in the world?

The NC coastal bears spend the day in the coastal swamp and feed in the adjacent corn fields all night. They grow big and fat. I saw a program that said a hunt for them is a 20 min/day affair trying to catch them headed back to the swamp at first light.
