I went for a fairly short walk with MR Carson mountain ruck that features live waist belt. I had about 20 pounds in it. The rear of the waist belt was at my lower back and I had the belt cinched fairly snug. Towards the end of the walk, the tops of my hips were feeling somewhat uncomfortable because of the belt pads. Is this normal and will go away as I get more used to the pack and it gets broken in?

I had that same issue. When I was in Bozeman a couple weeks ago I stopped by MR headquarters and had them fit my pack. It helped a bunch, but I sure would like a fuller padded belt. I have the popup 28 and ask if I could change belts, but they said that you can not change to a different belt.

Here are three relevant questions to help trouble shoot this issue

What were you wearing between you and the pack? Have you done any backpacking- ie have your hips ever supported a load heavier than a pair of jeans? Can you post pictures of you wearing the pack?

I was wearing a quarter zip along with a light weight jacket. Prior to that I used to carry up to 50lb in Camelbak Trizip with its waist belt. I never felt that discomfort when using the belt (which is thinner/less stiffer) on Camelbak.
The MR waist belt has a rather thick pad that is in a new condition. I wonder if that may have an issue. Will try to get photos up soon.
