Just sharing this because I will be switching to this for next year.

I have a 2018 mystery ranch pintler and it'd been great. I never take my pack off when hunting so the the pintler bag is a little big, even when strapped down with day hunt essentials.

MR offer a bag only option thats much smaller plus a gear hauler. The idea is your base camp gear goes in the hauler and you can drop that and go hunt. You could even carry it while hunting then drop it on your final staulk whild still having essentials with you incase something happens(injury, staying out all night to stay close to elk etc)

If anyone has used this system I'd like to hear about your experiences

I ran a mule with a spike bag (L.L. Bean large duffle bag). You might save a few ounces by pickup up a MR Spike bag, but to me it wasn't worth the cost vs grabbing something that just sits in the closet. I have no plans of changing anything in the future. The Mule makes for an awesome day pack! I am a no frills kind of guy though. I typically would shove layers as I shed them between my bag and frame. It is very simple: Main compartment, bladder slave, front slash pocket, and side pockets. If you run a bladder you might experiment with spike bag dimensions to ensure you can maintain access to your drinking tube.

I run the mule for spring turkey and spring bear and love it the bag only weighs a little over a pound but come deer and elk season i run the pintler for more room for more layers of clothes

How well does the Mule haul meat? I’d be looking at it to haul camp in, using an addditional bag, then compressing down for hunting. Then hauling an elk out. Does the frame, load lifters and belt really support a load well? A pack I can get a 5-day camp in and out and then meat, and use as a relatively compact 4.4lb day pack sounds almost too good to be true.

The frame is pretty bomber. I haven’t hauled meat but a friend has and it worked well for him. We both have pintlers but you would carry meat the same with a mule. You could get 5 days with that amount of volume, 1400 + 1800, pretty comfortably I think
