I am looking to see if anybody has used the CC as a day pack and if so what your thoughts are on it as such. Thanks

I think it works great. That is basically the 'default' mode for the CC, IMO. Its a fairly small package (for a pack with this much frame) when the side pockets are folded in and its compressed down tightly. I have no problem shooting my bow with the pack on, or strapping the bow or rifle to it when huffing in somewhere in the dark. Good for situations when you are hunting far from truck/camp and can't afford an empty or light trip back after knocking something down.

Best daypack design in the biz if you want the ability to carry meat out too.

I like using the crew cab in day pack mode better than as a multi day pack. I do have to say I think I prefer the longbow more though for day pack use. For a multi day pack I prefer the Metcalf. However, for a most of the time daypack and occasional use as an overnight bag, the crew cab will work. As most will tell you, it is a heavy pack and has no functional load lifters. For me, as much as I like the crew cab design, I see it as a jack of all trades, but master of none...

Is the optifade project done? I can't find any info.

From my understanding, Mystery Ranch did a very limited run of the Sitka pattern and it is no longer available new. I know someone who is selling a new bag & frame as mentioned (crewcab) in this pattern. I am very interest in the bag but already have a frame...

If anyone (or anyone who knows of someone) who is looking for a NICE frame in this pattern let me know and perhaps we can set something up?

Cheers

I used to run a CC for a daypack, and while it is the right size, I don't like the layout of the pack that much. For me to access much at all I had to undo the who setup to get into the various pockets. I agree with AZ Ron, this pack works as a daypack, but there are better bags suited for such use.

I now use my own load sling under a Tactical Tailor Removable Operators Pack to fill the load-capable-daypack niche.

As a daypack it's good, but I prefer the Longbow for that application. I had both and sold the CC, kept the Longbow. I use the Longbow as a daypack for whatever now. That said, the CC is much more versatile. I just like the inside storage and clean lines of the LB.

The thing I don't head much about the Longbow is that it can actually be used much like the Metcalf if it is detached from the frame and used to compress a load against it. I've only brought out elk quarters so far, but if the existing straps one the bottom of the NICE frame are crossed and attached to the top, the quarters are quite secure. Then you only have to straps the LB bag down on top of it with the side compression straps.

I guess my point is that even the bags that MR sells w/o a load sling built in are quite capable of being used in a similar way.

I have used the CC for a day pack and was very happy with it. I liked the expandability (word?), but the Longbow is sufficient to haul out boned out mule deer and simple needs. The bag will be full (very full) of meat, but enough straps to carry accessories just fine. This is my first season with the Metcalf and have only hauled out a quartered lope and full camp.

My only MR experiences have been with the LB, CC and Metcalf. If I do a week it will be the Metcalf. Though I like the CC (with lid), it would be redundant to the Metcalf (also with lid). If I had to pick between those two, I would go Metcalf.

IMO, if you have the frame and are looking for a bag....Metcalf, Longbow, CrewCab in that order for day hunts.

No pics of full LB boned meat and extras but it happened a couple times, but here is a shot of bone in quarters and pre pack camp on the Metcalf (just a lope). It all fit.

Mtmiller,
What cartridge is your GAP chambered for?

I only have experience with the Longbow but love it for a dedicated daypack, and, I like it much more now that I have the Mystery Ranch lift kit on it!
