This morning my son and I got to hunt deer together. He drew a limited entry tag here in Oregon for Columbia Whitetails. Up until about 10 years ago, these deer were federally protected. Where we live is one of the few places that has them, and there is a healthy population. We saw 5 bucks and this was one of the best. He's a super young man and it's a well deserved trophy.

Thanks everyone!

Jason, this is my fourth son, I've got five boys and a daughter :-) The oldest son drew the Oregon antelope tag this year. Two of them drew sheep tags in their teens. I'll duck now so I don't get hit ;-)

We had only one full day to deer hunt due to everyone's schedules, sports, etc. so we feel super blessed. This buck has some very cool mass, the split point and bladed main beams that are hard to show in the same pic. Hopefully when I'm done with the European mount done, I'll post a couple more.

I am doing low temperature maceration, which is basically a 5 gallon plastic bucket of water filled up to just below the antlers, a fish tank heater to keep the water luke warm and a few weeks of time to let the bacteria clean the skull. I've done it on antelope and it works very well.

My best days afield were always with my son and daughter. You should be real proud of that hunt and boy. Congrats.
