I've been hunting coyotes for along time now and taken my fair share. I thought it would be cool to try and get one with a Hawken muzzleloader that belongs to my dad. I practiced and practiced with it and got pretty good out to 100 yards with it. I went out one day and called this dog in to within 95 yards. I really did not have high hopes of hitting him. When the smoke cleared, Mr. Yote was down for the count!

awesome! a 100 yd shot on a dog with a Hawken. You're primed to big buck hunt now. They'll seem huge looking through that open site.

Since SD has started a muzzleloader season I have been able to draw the tag twice. It is a great opportunity to find a mature buck cruising around after the seasons and the main rut has ended. I shot the muley at 196 yards and the whitetail at 60 yards, open sights.

Jared, Love the mule deer- a true trophy especially considering SDakota and an open-sighted smoke pole. Thanks for sharing, that get's me excited! Great Whitey, too. What is the gun/load?
