Great story!! My favorite line, aside from your satisfaction in your elk partner’s smile following his success:

“If there was an Olympic event for time to get off a horse, Walt would be bringing a gold medal to America.”

I hunted off of horses for many years. That line brought back great memories and it was probably good I read it in the evening rather than the morning or I would’ve spit out my coffee with laughter.
I want to meet Walt someday and take my teenage son along.
