My Columbian Blacktail look-alike :)

Just got back from a great hunt with some good friends in California. We had a phenomenal time and I was lucky enough to take this

Just wanted to say thanks a million to the two guys who took my under their wing. They know their chit when it comes to these deer, that I can say for sure! I saw 6 bucks the first evening and that was AFTER doing some spot n stalk on a great 3x3 with a droptine for most of the day. The next evening was spent trying to get on the drop tine buck again and then the third evening we sat in a blind seeing around 20 deer within a few yards. It was a tremendous hunt and I can't wait to do it again someday. So, thank you again.

Yeah hes a dandy. Id say by looking at him hes 3.5 to 4 years old. I remember my first blacktail. It was a great time with my dad. I think I got a bigger one then he did on my first bowhunt back in 88.

Thanks folks!

It was shot in one of the Columbian Blacktail zones depicted on this map by California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Will it be eligible for P&Y? No, unfortunately not because the boundaries they use are not the same as what the state uses.

Either way, good enough for me, for now.

Actionshooter, I have a few hunts here in Idaho, a whitetail hunt in Montana in October and then the wife and I are moving to Alaska in late October. Likely won't even be moved in by the time our November hunt moves around, wonder how that will go over :)

Still a great buck, congrats! Hope Chris and Joe took good care of ya!

Thanks Arrowslinger, we had a great time and I can't wait until the next hunt with those two.

For my personal goals, this deer was exactly what I wanted and even more than I deserved. Someday when time/money are no object of concern, I will go West of 5 and get one that will qualify for P&Y, but until then I am more than satisfied.
