Saturday started off with some light rain and snow for Indiana's second weekend of firearms season. A basket rack 6 point walked in right at shooting light. About 2 hours later, the largest buck I have ever seen in this area trotted through, just out of my comfortable shooting distance with a muzzleloader. Right at 10am, in walks another buck. I look through the scope and grunt to stop him. When the smoke cleared, he had dropped where he stood. This is my best public land buck yet!

Thanks guys! One of the first things I noticed after I field dressed him was that his lower jaw was broken at one time and was semi-healed. Maybe this happened while fighting another buck. He was healthy with a full stomach of corn and acorns. I can't imagine the pain of eating that with a broken jaw.
