Temporarily off the radar!
I've hunted a lot of years and taken many deer but haven't had a good track record on bucks! We hunt public land northern mn so you can't be to picky and you take what you get!!! Not many minerals or something so the bucsk don't get big racks but they get some big bodies. Anyways Sunday morning I went to my buddies new little 28 acre woods with my dad. My friend rich told me to sit in his stand cause they had tagged out on opener Saturday on a spike and a button. He said he had seen some better bucks but could never get a shot. I just got in the stand after bumping one on the way in and was kinda trying to familiarize myself to the area with what light I had. We had gotten a snow crust over night so I knew it would help to pick the deer out in the thick. I started hearing crunch crunch crunch to my right and seen a body coming thru the thick. I pulled up my binos and could barely tell that it was a legal buck. Looked to be a spike or fork. Was gonna pass but remembered my dad saying fill my buck tag if you can. I went to stand and a board in the stand made a big "POP" the deer stopped with vitals behind a tree and was looking right at me. Crap I thought gonna run. We played stand off for what felt like and eternity. This actually played into my favor for it was getting lighter by the minute. He finally dropped his head and stepped out I had the gun up on the rail ready to go but could get the angle on him. Not wanting to step on the board again but needing more angle I just went for it. Kinda lunged forward and up KABOOM! He took off which made me a lil nervous but I thought I heard him crash in the brush. I texted my dad that I shot a fork. He replied I never heard you shoot. I don't think he made it to his spot. I went down and found where he was when I shot and had blood so I backed out to kill time. Went back in with my dad and said I'll track blood you watch ahead incase he runs or we gotta finish him. He said why hes right there and he's better than a fork. So here you go my first/best mn buck and my first buck in near 15 years.

Congrats! It's always nice when they get bigger once they hit the ground! I usually deal with ground shrinkage!

Ended up gettin him right in the heart. I know hes no booner and probably scores less than 100 but none of that even matters to me! Was just an awesome hunt only being in the stand 10 minutes and then getting to share the whole deal with my best friend/dad! Something I will remember over many other experiences afield.

Congrats. Might not be the biggest rack in the world but that's a big bodied Buck there, should be a good bit of meat. Racks only matter as much as there meaning to the hunter that claimed them. Sounds like you had a good hunt and the prize to show it. I'd be proud of that rack too.

good job man! The hunt was with Dad, you should definately make a family feast with the best cuts, and toast to hunting with your father.
best of luck to the two of you for years to come.
