Muzzleloader Cleaning w/ Blackhorn 209

I leave tonight for a week of ML hunting. Prior to this I've only used smokeless but BH209 will be required on this hunt. Any reason for concern if a brux stainless barrel is fouled with BH209 for a week without cleaning?

No. The standard practice (and mine) is to do nothing between Bh209 shots and leave fouled. The other subs (777 especially) require “swabbing” between shots and will corrode your barrel if left very long. BH209 is basically non-corrosive.

I dont have a small enough drill bit for the tiny flash hole in my arrowhead LRP breach plug, hopefully the LRM primers and higher pressures help keep things open a little better than 209 setups?

I wouldn’t stick anything in the flash hole. The carbon will build up in the flame channel though and should be removed with a drill bit.

If you're using modules along with LRM primers, there won't be any carbon buildup. The carbon buildup happens with 209 ignition systems.
However............ leave the flash hole alone.
A primer pocket uniformer/cleaner should be used on the fired modules.

I’m not saying it can’t be done. I’ve done it carefully on occasion with torch tip cleaners myself. The danger is, if you’re too aggressive you can speed up flash hole enlargement (this is more of a danger with traditional steel than with tungsten carbide bushings). But….honestly, I rarely have any carbon to deal with in the flash hole, in my 40+ muzzies. It all builds up in the flash channel from the primer and flow-back from the powder.

I never clean primer pockets on precision centerfire ammo so doubt i'll do the modules unless it really starts to build up. It does seem that they may foul up a bit quicker with BH209.

Cleaning and using a uniformer helps make modules last longer IMO. Every once in a while after removing the spent primers, I run them through a sonic cleaner. I'm still shooting the first 50 modules I have from 7yrs ago and thousands of rounds later.
