Muzzle loader mule deer stories.

I wait for windy days and wander around in milo and corn fields. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. But always entertaining. Going to give it a go again here shortly.

58 caliber Hawken by Bergmann. Has an old GRRW barrel on it and has a quite fast lock time. Sort of stopped me using centerfires lol. He's nicknamed Lloyd after the Utah gentleman who built the barrel. My only named rifle. Anyway, Lloyd and I will be looking for bears and deer here shortly.

Stunner of a gun - I'm jealous of the guy that might find you of sound mind and broke legs :ROFLMAO:

First muzzleloader mule deer buck harvested over 10 years ago in state that allowed scopes at the time. Last year harvested a coues buck with open sights under 100 yards. 2 different guns 2 different setups. First gun was tc a gift from my brother. Second gun was a Covid purchase and setup took couple years to set it up how I wanted.

Failure: saw a really nice wide buck for a couple days in the high country. About 11,500 ft elevation. 3rd day of season he came down pretty low to feed and then up a shady draw to bed under a tree on a small rock outcropping. I waited till he moved to 2nd bed just out of sight uphill a bit. I worked around wide and above the draw and came down on top of huge rocks looking down into draw. Could not find him so backed up, moved about 10 yds down the boulder then crept out to look. Dang if he wasn't up on his feet staring at me about 15 yards away. I couldn't really get a shot at vitals, weird angle and body position. I thought of the angle that I didn't want to shoot under him so as soon as he turned to run I shot at the top of his back. Don't know where bullet went but he got in trees about 75 yards away and my heart sank as I saw him wag his tail then walk off.
