Looking for the muzzle diameter of a 24.3" barrel on a Tikka T3x lite in 6.5 PRC. Can somebody mic it for me who has one? Thinking chromemoly or stainless should be close in diameter, if not identical.

Curious if it is .630" or larger for threading purposes with a eurooptic deal, or if i will just purchase one of the newer (more expensive) ones already threaded 5/8x24.

And yes, i want the the longer barrel for this particular rifle with a ZG 6.5 suppressor for the velocity.

TIA

I just had my Eurooptic roughtech superlite threaded 5/8"-24 with a shoulder added, and the barrel was around 0.64X" at the muzzle (D16.5 profile? I'll check and update). You just need a barrel diameter slightly above the major diameter of 5/8" thread which is 0.6239" as long as your gunsmith can add a shoulder. I think the thinnest tikka barrel profile is D16 (16mm) which is 0.629" diameter.

Thx much Andouille, was your superlite 24.3" in length?

And do we know if the superlites have thinner barrels than lites?

If the T3x lite in 6.5 PRC is .630 or better at the muzzle, it may be a little cheaper to have Karl Feldkamp in ID thread it for me than to get a new model already threaded.

Well, i assumed there's a few inches of constant diameter near the muzzle, but that's not the case.

my roughtech superlite was around 0.640 at 20", so im not sure if the taper is the same as a longer barrel. It's now 0.657 at 19" length (1/2" from flutes) so thats not helpful.

Plain stainless Lite and superlight non-roughtech are the same barrels, the latter having flutes. I just measured a 24.3" 300WM stainless lite and the very tip of the muzzle diameter is 0.618". Too thin for 5/8-24 without losing about 2.5-3" to get to thicker diameter, but you can absolutely go 1/2-28" with a nice 5/8-24" thread adapter permanently installed by a gunsmith.

If you're looking at a gun from Eurooptic, you can ask them what the barrel profile is (D18, D16.5, D16), i think they can tell from the codes on the box

Not sure if its the same OD but 24” 6.5 creed barrel is .610 at the muzzle. No way in hell would I thread it at 24” though, not for the diameter but for the length. It’s .650 back behind the threads on the one I had cut to 20”.

Thanks guys, it may be simpler to get a one of the newer models already threaded from the factory.

Karl Feldkamp (Kampfeld Custom) will put a collar to 5/8x24 on a barrel less than .630, it just costs more than on a barrel .630 or larger.

This rifle will have a specific use case for that length - enough velocity in open country with a ZG 6.5 to use whatever bullet i want (with a folding chassis eventually) so the few extra inches won't be a big deal on a pack.

If i end up hating it for whatever reason, i'll have Karl cut it down/thread it.

Rifle balance may be the biggest consideration for barrel length, a 29" flag pole may not handle well, but at least the ZG is as light and short a can as is available. A heavier stock would help restore balance (if its an issue). I have a ZG6.5 in jail to put on my 19" 6.5CM, and the balance should be perfect.
