Muzzle Break on Hunting Rifle

I recently emptied my muzzle break drawer into the trash. I’ve toyed with them a few times over the years, bought donors that came with them. I realized I just have absolutely zero interest in making rifles louder. I don’t shoot anything I “need” a brake for. If I want it to recoil less, I’ll put a can on it.

Thank you for the suggestion! Duelly noted.

I dont live in a state where suppressors are allowed. Maybe one day
Take suppressor money and spend it on custom molded active ear protection. Something that works well and you will actually wear during a hunt. If legally allowed in your state.

Braked 340 fired once in my youth without plugs on a hunt when something wanted to get shot on short notice. Good news is Costco hearing aids are pretty reasonable, I like mine. On a 308, I'd skip it for sure.

I definitely prefer a suppressor when shooting/hunting. The one rifle where a brake really shines over my suppressor is my 338 RUM. Not much recoil with the 5 port brake, but it’s noticeable with my TBAC 338 Ultra.

If you do go with a brake, keep ear protection around your neck and toss them in before the shot.

I love they my magnums have breaks. I hate that you have to put in ear pro or lose your hearing

Options imo
Shoot less recoil so you don’t need the break to spot impacts at range, but you still kinda want ear pro if you like to hear when your old

Get electronic ears( I have some they work great ), you can hear and talk till you shoot I just put them in when I suspect I might take a shot

Put in ear pro and be slow but keep the break.
Kinda my preferred option but to each their own
