I'm not real thrilled with the break that came with my Kimber Hunter Pro (aka Cabelas version). Knowing that their thread isn't common. Does anyone make a light self timing break or will I need to track down someone to fabricate one?

Also I'm aware that Kimber makes an adapter to fit a more common thread but I'd prefer to not have to mess with another part.

I would think 6-8 months right now. Maybe a year.

I had a radial brake on my first Creedmoor because I thought it looked cool. But that thing was deafening. I keep a couple muzzle brakes on my rifles now as thread protectors. They are just a large single port on both sides. Actually does really well on taming the 300WM and they were 20 something bucks on eBay.

I have one coming back from nathan muzzle brakes and more, haven't shot yet but he is highly recommended

What thread pitch?
7/16x28...they make an adapter for like $30 but I'd like to not have to use it.

I also looked up supressor turnaround times and it is around 300 days from filing to in hand. Not going to help with this rifle right now but I'll probably get one ordered for my next project.

That would be awesome but I'm looking at what 18-24 months wait for one. So yeah a better muzzlebreak would be awesome.

Not sure who told you 18-24 months but I sure hope it isn't that long. I just called NFA branch yesterday to check my status (almost 10 months) and they told me they are running about 9-12 months. Worth the wait I think.

Pics of my brake from Nathan, sent back for him to time and bead blast, should be back soon

Probably not a good idea. Many report problems with muzzle brakes on a number of brands. Side blast is high, etc., if Kimber thought they belonged on a rifle they would put them on. Their present niche is super lightweight hunting rifles.

The Cabelas version of the Kimber Hunter Pro is cerakoted and has their standard brake on it. Just wanted to improve on their standard brake which is probably more loud than helpful.

At this point I will probably just get a thread protector thrown on it because I've already done baseline load development.

The standard kimber brake is effective. Not at good as some others, but effective none the less. I've added one to my Montana. It made it much easier to keep the rifle on target through the recoil.

Nice I talked to Nathan at Muzzle Brakes and More. He said he doesn't make a self timing break for 7/16-28 because they're not heavy duty enough to hand the torque. I need to figure out if I should run a crush washer or find a smith to time one for me. I'd prefer the latter although I'm tempted to forego the whole thing at the moment and pursue a suppressor that can handle my needs for 2 or 3 of my rifles.

I've started the process of finding a suppressor for my rifles. I like the looks of the SilencerCo Harvester with the exchangeable attachment for other thread pitches. Though I'm literally only 20 minutes into searching.

Do you want it to cut the recoil? Cans are great but they are not the best at cutting recoil. They make the recoil pulse much longer.

I don't really need to cut recoil on this particular rifle...280AI. I feel the break isn't that effective and makes a bunch of noise. So I decided either have a break that is effect (with the noise) or reduce the noise (with some benefit to recoil reduction)

Huh...considering Kimber kinda puts muzzle brakes on a bunch of their rifles, they might not think it,s such a bad idea...
Anyhoo, I like muzzle brakes..
What is the OD on the 280 barrel?
If you can throw a side port on, waaaaay more effective than radial..

I have a break from Nathan on my 280ai Montana. I think that with as light as the gun is the break just does not do as much as one may think it should. I can shoot it all day but I cannot keep the scope on target after the recoil.

I use the kimber one with my .280 AI so I can stay on target and it works well.
