I have a 700 cdl sf in 300 wsm I am wanting to put a brake on. Thing is I want it blended and tapered. I think a vais is to big. The Twisted Barrel spiral muzzle brake looks like it could be close. Anyone have a blended brake on a sporter barrel?

I would most definitely not do anything you plan on shooting prone or hunting at all with that has radial ports. Once you shoot one in a burn area or anywhere dry and neither you or your spotter can see anything for about 5 seconds, you will realize they work for reducing recoil, but are terrible for kicking up dust and debris. What is your barrel dia at the muzzle? Mine might be an option once I get this production run of 1/2-28 and 5/8-24 ran.

Just curious what is the reason for wanting it the same size as the barrel/blended?
Normally the smaller the brake the less efficient it becomes. I also agree that I will never own a racial brake again. Side discharge is far easier from prone and controlling recoil also.
Your muzzle diameter is probably about .670?

I want it blended and tapered due to ascetics. It’s .60 at the muzzle. radial should be able to be taken down quite a bit more than a brake with side ports due to it having so many more ports. Might just go with a micro bastard though as that would be more shootable.

Check out Muzzlebrakesandmore. Nathan’s brakes are awesome. The mini beast might be perfect for your needs.

I had a micro bastard installed on a 700 in 300 RUM. The gunsmith turned it down to match the sporter barrel profile and it looks great IMO. It is just as effective as my old mans large brake on his sendero barrel.

Sg- A taper can be done like Anozira posted and can be blended pretty well. Also a lot of brakes can be turned down on the OD some also. I understand the aesthetic of the radial but I’d you choose a smaller diameter side discharge and have it tapered IMO it’s not that noticeable and far more effective. Contact Nathan and he can answer a lot of questions for you. CDBBAF3F-AE9B-4689-9532-0D8054003CD0.jpeg

That looks a lot more like what I’m wanting. Generally I don’t worry about it since everything else is set up with med Palma or heavier and for a can. But I’ve gotten tired of lugging 14 pound rifles around and I’ve put together some dedicated hunting guns. This wsm being a stand in until my full build is finally finished. I just still want it to be shootable.
