I know it makes sense and most will already know.
I shot both my RAR in 5.56 with a 16” barrel and my Tikka compact with a 20” barrel today.
Noticeably more noise from the 16” barrel.

And I know that everyone will think “No shit” and I agree. But I never realized how much before today after shooting them back to back.

The main point I wanted to make is that both these rifles seem to be greatly considered for new or young shooters.
I would advise that this is taken into consideration when shopping.

I’ll be at the front of the line to “defend” 😁 a Ruger American, but the Tikka Compact wins the noise comparison. Easily.

And yes, I know I should go suppressed and I won’t have to worry about such things. Before all those guys show up. 😀

Your last bit is spot on!!😀

I have both rifles mentioned. My oldest used the RAR for 1 season before my first muffler was released. She wasn't a big fan even with double ear protection.

We've shot the Tikka a little bare muzzle (with ear pro, of course) and it is noticeably more tame but nothing goes better with youngsters and rifles than a suppressor! Night and day difference on the "shooting is fun" meter.

As far as suppressed goes, I think that would be another virtue for the Tikka given the circumstances (new/young shooters).
I know from personal experience that it’s hard to scrounge up enough money for a rifle, let alone a can for it too.
In that regard, try and by one that gets the noise farther away from your ears.
