"Must Do" for Mid-October Success

I'm two days out from my first October rifle elk hunt. I feel like I've done everything under the sun for before the hunt prep but, of course, all of it is for naught if I can't execute in the field. I typically run around with a bow, either early or late, and I feel pretty good about behavior in September and November, but October is full of mystery. This has me wondering, what's your one "must do" for success? How do you make sure tag soup isn't on the menu?

Stay out all day, burn a lot of headlamp batteries and cover ground and more ground until you find them and if the 2/3rd estrus gods shine on you things could get real fun, real quick🤙

Generally the least predictable time to chase them, though generally my favorite. Most of the places I’ve chased mid-later October elk they are after security for the most part.
