Mule Deer Meat Pole '17

Here's a little Washington State mulie. I hunted an area I normally only chukar hunt that's not too far from my house. It's not a big deer area, but occasionally I see a couple and once in a while I do see a buck. I didn't expect to see this guy though. He's my biggest in 49 years of hunting, 28 1/2" outside spread. I think I'm feeling my age too. It took me until next morning to get the last load out.

CO 3rd season leftover draw tag. DIY public land. First time hunting the area, got him on Sunday morning.

I️ wasn’t able to find a buck to kill in the Washington early rifle backcountry hunt. Our group went 2-5. So when the general season opened up I️ asked my 80 year old Dad if he wanted to camp a few days and do an easy hunt with low expectations. This wonky deer came at us on a rope and I️ killed him at 8:00 about 400 yards from camp. I️ was super excited to share the memory with my dad. You never know how many you’ll get.

Helped my brother get his first mule deer.

And I rolled this one in WY.

Kind of thinking about mounting that one as he had a great cape and got him while hunting with my son. I don't shoot many decent mule deer.

Well, I would classify that as a decent buck. Very nice buck.

I didn't run across any big boys on my desert mule deer hunt this year. I took this meat buck on the last day of my 5-day hunt. Got him out in one trip, fortunately only 1/2 mile over mild terrain.
