I'm new to big game hunting and I am absolutely captivated by mule deer. Been learning all I can on the subject, and I just finished Robby Denning's book, Hunting Big Mule Deer - How to take the best buck of your life (I highly recommend this to ANYONE). Does anyone have any other recommendations for mule deer hunting books?

Much appreciated,
GC

hey thanks for buying the book.

I've reviewed tons of books on our Rok Blog:

https://www.rokslide.com/?s=Book+reviews

there's 2-3 pages there.

Also, I reviewed the book @JMundy84 on the Rokcast: https://www.rokslide.com/blood-in-the-tracks-a-mule-deer-manifesto-review/

One that I haven't reviewed yet but just finished is Jim Heffelfingers "Deer of the Southwest". It's heavy on mule deer biology but most hunters are light on that subject, so it's a good read to balance out all we think we know about managing mule deer.

Thanks for your input Robby. I'll definitely look into those.

Hope all is well,

There was an earlier thread on this topic which I followed. I picked up Mule Deer Country by Valerious Guest and it is an easy read with fantasic photos. Can't go wrong with Mike Eastham's books either.

Both of Robby's have been my favorites. After a while I found most of the tips and tactics etc get repetitive but the storytelling makes Robby's come alive. The others, Eastman, Darner, Prothero, Schuh are good but felt a bit dated. Heffelfingers book and The Edge are on my list. If Brady Miller ever finishes his book I would buy it in a heartbeat.

The Geist and schuh books are both good, as mentioned. I’ll have to look for a copy of Heffelfingers "Deer of the Southwest".

I've read several mule deer hunting books, but the ones that stood out most to me as far as helpful information have been the David Long Books. His second one "The Edge" was better overall, but his first one had a great chapter detail of how to effectively glass.
On top of the books, I would highly recommend going back into the archives of the Remi Warren Live Wild Podcast and listening to every mule deer related episode. Also, the Backbone Unlimited Youtube Channel. All are great sources of spreading real and helpful knowledge, not just entertainment.
