So I've been putting off studying for my promotional exam by crunching numbers on archers advantage looking for a good arrow that will weighs around 390-400 grains, shoots around 290-295 fps, and has a FOC greater than 12.

Here's what I've got so far:

All of these are with three 2" blazer vanes, and whatever standard nock comes from the manufacturer. My current arrow is the Easton Axis. I'm really impressed with the Gold Tip Velocity XT, this is kinda the way arrow I'm leaning too right now, my only concern is wind drift with how big the shaft is compared to the micro-diameter shafts from Easton and Black Eagle. Has anyone else ran into wind drift problems from Gold Tip Velocity XT arrows? Are there any compelling reasons why I should look hard at the Black Eagle setups?

I would go with the rampage and brass hit ...add a VPA collar sleeve and your golden

The Rampage combos are the best that you've listed.

What's your arrow length? I'm using GT Pro hunters w/ 50grn insert weight finishing at 428grn. 17% FOC.

I've been thinking about this also as I shoot the same arrow, my 340 Axis at 27.5" with 125gr tip and footing come in at just under 450 gr with about 12% foc with a 100gr tip only around 9-10%. I'm only shooting 60lbs at about 260 fps, just thinking about tinkering with lighter set up, but like Craig said I don't get caught up too much in the speed.

Id run the heavy one. Don't get caught up on the speed game. Are you shooting fixed or expandables?

I was thinking of trying some ulmer edge or schwaker broadheads this year.

I'm cutting these to 27 3/4, if I run the lightweight of the three rampage arrow setups I'd likely back my poundage off to around 65. I'll lose a little speed but tubing would be easier.

Less issues with expandables. Two of the best bows I've had were shooting in the low to mid 270 fps range with fixed heads. Flew like darts and easy to tune. It seems my setups that shoot in the 280 + range start getting sensitive to fixed head flight more than I like to deal with.

I'd run the heaviest option of your choices.

The smaller diameter shaft isn't going to have significantly less wind drift than the other shafts. It may be statistically significant but there is a noticable "real world" difference.

If you can find Ulmers, they have been discontinued. I'm not a huge Schwacker fan as I want my heads to open before it enters the animal vs after. I'll be switching to Grim Reapers this year.

N.A.P. makes the "Slingblade" which is very much like the ulmer edge if you want something in current production.

rhendrix, the BE Rampage arrows come standard with a 56 gr steel half out insert if you don't mind that type of insert. That would be more cost effective than buying the HITs, unless you already have them.

I go heavy for everything anymore. My mule deer and elk arrows are the same now. 450 grains. They just perform better on tough shots or bad shots. Plus they hold velocity better at longer ranges which usually gives me flatter trajectories past 50 yards.

Man I really don't like outserts, I've read nothing but horror stories about them.

curious what horror stories you've heard. I mainly shoot FMJ's but just picked up some xtreme pass throughs and they have outserts. I squared everything up with an ASD prior to install and up to now haven't had any issues.

Just curious what you have heard.

Several posts on archery talk where guys have run outserts with the rampages and had the outsert break, granted they're breaking by bouncing off of rocks or trees, I've only shot Easton axis arrows and never had a problem breaking the arrow when I miss. They may work great, I'm just hesitant to try them.
