Mtn Ops Grid Fleece

Looks like a nice piece except it's too bad it's made by mtn ops I'll pass
Serious question: Is Mtn Ops a bad brand for a specific reason? Poor quality, materials, sweat shop, etc? I was looking at purchasing this, so I'm interested in your response.

Im just a hater. I think the majority of supplements are scams full of dyes and fillers. They have cleverly marketed themselves as the go to hunting supplement with their army of influencers, selling imo overpriced snake oil to make people feel like the only way to be successful in the woods is literally drink their kool aid or buy their hats. They also sponsor a lot of industry kooks I would never support and seem to be the first brand to support any wannabe influencer hell bent on profiting off of point creep pushing a promo code. I just can't support that. If you eat clean, exercise regularly and stay away from alcohol and drugs you will have no problem being successful in your hunting and life endeavors.

I generally agree with a lot of that stuff. I only use protein and I actually really enjoy their Ignite product because I was basically addicted to energy drinks and it is a healthier and more convenient option.

However for what it’s worth, Mtn Ops is an incredibly charitable company. They have strong Christian values (not sure if that’s important to you, but being a good person in my mind transcends religion or politics), they belong to 2% for Conservation and donate 1% of their total revenue to conservation as well as volunteer work in the outdoors, and they have donated over 3,000,000 meals to help underprivileged and hungry people in our communities. To me, that’s good enough to over look the influencer BS and I support them whenever I can.

Yeah, nothing quite screams Utah instagram posse hunting bro like a MTN OPS logo. I'll be replacing some patagonia grid fleece from pre-knowing about anti predator hunting stance days and I feel like these would be a lateral move at best as far as being embarrassed by a logo.

I (reluctantly) bought one when they were 30% off. It’s a great piece, I wear it all the time. I have mentioned in another thread somewhere that I really dislike the hood design, but thats common in most hunting grid fleeces. I look forward to the logos wearing off.

EDIT: I haven’t looked at the tag, but given the price and frequent sales, there’s no doubt these are made in a sweat shop.

also active junky is offering 8% cash back so you can pick one up for $62 or $63 including shipping not bad might have to pick one up

I’ve contemplated taking a heat gun to the logos, wouldn’t mind a non hooded version.

Just got it. Definitely on the heavier side, the zippers are kind of loud, the hood is a little looser. They didn’t shy away from putting their logo on all of it. It’s bulkier…doesn’t pack down well. I went with a large and that’s a relaxed fit on me and it is comfortable. Compared to the SG Helio—which is much lighter, pocket is in a better spot for use with a pack, and has a more dialed in fit and a more form fitting hood on me. The zipper pulls are higher quality, too. and the Helio has thumbholes. Helio has a smaller grid pattern, as well.

I don’t have the Sitka Core HW, I’d be interested in knowing how the Mt Ops compares to that.

I think the Mt ops is a good value and will be something I will likely wear a lot casually. But if I’m hunting, the Helio is vastly superior in everyway.

I hate the tightly tapered sleeves that have become so common especially on hoodies. Give me a loose sleeve with an elastic cuff (like my KUIU Kenai) and I'll be happy. That way I can use it close to my base layer or further out without fighting my arms all the time.

Ordered one of these and it came in yesterday. Pretty meh to me; nothing special. Not a fan of the hood and it's very lightweight. Maybe something you grab when it's 55-60 degrees. Kangaroo pocket is cool, but I don't plan on keeping it.

Update on the Mtn Ops - Pilling a lot after just a couple of washes. I’ve worn it mostly for casual use outside, around the yard. It’s very comfortable. For the price, though, very loosely knit. I wouldn’t purchase another and I think there are significantly better options out there - Sitka Core HW, SG Helio
