MT elk rut?

WoW is it quiet? Had my first multi-day backcountry hunt this weekend and hardly a peep. One bull bugled around midnight Saturday night and that was it. Hunted Thursday night in the elkhorns and not a sound. Seems everyone I talk to are saying the same thing, just not vocal. Any thoughts?

The full moon has everything messed up right now. give it another 5 or 6 days and it should ramp up pretty good.

Yeah it has slowed way down where I am too. They were more active the first 2 weeks than usual I thought, but we got out of the mountains today for 3 days/nights and only had 1 bull bugle 4 times during the day and saw just a few head compared to elk all over the place like usual. We did have a bull come into camp at 3am our first night and was screaming for half an hour but that was it really. Hopefully they aren't starting to shut down between the full moon and that bad storm we had a few days ago.

In my area the bulls are still in small groups and not with cows at all. I think it will pick up this week and coming weekend.

In central MT the rut is pretty well in full swing. In 4 days we called in a dozen bull and were lucky enough to stick arrows in 2.

Good info guys, think I am going crazy. Cooler weather this week and I hope it ramps up a bit.

Its been very quiet in North Idaho where I have been hunting and Washington was crazy quiet.
