Thought I would post this for the benefit of those who are interested, and will try to keep things updated.

I recent purchased the latest version of the MT 223 Tikka magazine. At first, it fed flawlessly. I had one hiccup within about 100 rounds. Then, it started having issues frequently around 130-140 rounds. Normally it’s the last round tilting back, and not capable of being picked up by the bolt head. Sometimes it happens to the second or third round. I contacted MT about the issue. He was very quick to respond. I told him what was happening. He said they did switch anodizing companies, and the previous one had a rougher texture that could be a little more “grabby” on brass. He wasn’t sure which anodizer mine was from. He said to disassemble the mag, clear it from debris, and then oil the contact surfaces. I did so, but it didn’t help at all. I replied to him with my findings. He replied quickly and said the follower shouldn’t be able to tilt like that, and CC’d the shipping department on our email, asking them to ship me a new mag. Hopefully the new one is free from issues. I will get some rounds on it, and report back on this thread. Just wanted to be open as to its function so others can see some data for themselves about a potential issue or the quality of customer service. So far, they’re taking good care of me.

I hope you have a better experience than I did. It took over 2 years for MT to replace my defective Gen 1 mags with Gen 2 mags. I haven’t used them in the field yet, just two or three mags worth to check feeding/extraction.

I’m using 3-D printed mags from Ascension Industries now. Cheaper, lighter, fully functional, 4 round, extended seating capable.

I picked up two Ascension mags and two Mt Tactical over black Friday. I also will have a single 10 round Waters mag to try.

No issues with the Ascension. The Mt Tactical mags have failed to seat fully resulting in the bolt not stripping a round a couple times. So far, being careful to push the back of the mag in first, then pushing hard on the front fixes it. Not sure if it is both or just one of the Mt Tactical mags yet.

How many rounds have you put through the Ascension mags?

I had an experience similar to @Pharmseller

My gen 2 hasn’t been thoroughly tested but I did have one feeding issue with 2.26” COAL rounds. I haven’t tried it with my 75 ELDM load yet.

I had one gen 2 mag that worked well for a while. The others all hung up and rode over rounds eventually.

I wish there was a better us based option but I don’t think they would be any cheaper than what waters makes. He has the 223 mags figured out, most case head showing of any of the 223 tikka mags I have seen.

Generally I have not been very impressed with the quality coming from mountain tactical. With any of their products. I have bought quite a few

I’m guessing this is because they still were developing the latest gen? He’s got mags in stock, so I don’t figure it’ll take long.

But yes, if this next one doesn’t work out, I’ll probably buy the Ascension mags. I know he was working on getting someone to make springs for him. Anyone know if he’s made progress on that?

He got a quote the other day but I’m not sure if ordered them
