There’s some decent deals on 2020 packs and accessories today (6/13). Grabbed a hooded pack cover to try out for myself.

I picked up the MR Popup 28. I've wanted a daypack that could pack weight, without pulling my shoulders off, that still felt like a daypack.
I'll admit, the ability to use it as a carry-on was a factor in choosing it. So, you can put your frozen meat in your carry-on and it isn't too heavy? Do you put bubble wrap or a liner in it to insulate it.I've had a PU28 for two years. A very capable and versatile little pack. Hope you're as happy with yours as I am.
A big plus for me is that it meets airline restrictions for overhead carry on bags. That's how I get my boned and frozen antelope and deer meat home.

Heck yeah that's awesome. I honestly never thought of that as an option. My carry- on gets the "random" search everytime I fly, so I guess that's why I have the mental block about it. I'll be trying it now though.I line the pack with one of those grocery store freezer bags, and fill the pack with frozen bags of boned out meat. I can fit a whole antelope in there, or most of a mule deer. What's left of the mule deer goes into my other personal item which fits under the seat, also lined with a freezer bag. I've never seen a domestic flight check carry ons for weight. Hell, they hardly ever check for overall size, but the PU28 is well within the limit. Sometimes, if overhead space is tight, they'll ask you to gate check the pack, for which there is no charge.
So far, I've done this for two years. I return out of Rapid City, change in Dallas to Tampa and then, drive 1.5 hrs home. When I get home, the meat is still like a rock. I let it thaw in the fridge, than vacuum seal, label and refreeze.
