.308,.300 PRC, .300 Win Mag, or the .338 Lapua........... interested in thoughts. Would use this to practice longer ranges, as well as hunting in Alpine or Tundra at distance. Pretty much this would be used as my go to long range. Right now I have a .300 Wby Vanguard Backcountry, it’s light and my go to for stalking around for everything. However what if I get to hunt a grizzly one day, .308 probably not a good idea right? Idk I’m literally torn.

If it were me I would get a lapua bolt face. I would probably get the .300 Norma Mag. When the time comes for your next barrel you could chamber it in 338 Lapua, 300 terminator, 338 terminator or another 30-338 wildcat without needing a different bolt. Or keep it a .300 Norma Mag. ADG makes brass for it and you can have @Unknown Munitions load for it.

Nothing at all, I’m still learning to shoot it really, adjusting to the high recoil accurately. I just came into some excess money per month and these rifles have been catching my eye. I’m using the money to stock up before something wild happens in our country. Call it paranoid or what have you but, I deem it smart.

I've had a MPR in 6.5CM for a couple of years now. Very nice rifle that drives tacks. Maybe the easiest rifle to shoot really well I've had to date.

I would not want one in a higher recoil cartridge...the stock isn't designed for recoil mitigation in the slightest. I know they chamber it in some heavy hitters, but it wouldn't be any fun at all.

300WBY is a good grizzly cartridge, you've got that base covered. I'd get the MPR in 6.5 something and just enjoy shooting it more.

appreciate the experience insight

Would this rifle be okay for a kid? I'm seriously looking at this in 6.5 CM and would be suppressed.

The stock has a lot of adjustment range, so you should be able to fit it to a smaller shooter. Recoil in the 6.5 is pretty tame and a suppressor would make it even more so.

Any kid old enough to fool with a CF rifle shouldn't have any issue with it.

Why not go .338 right off the bat first then.

I would rather shoot the heavier for caliber .30's than the heavier for caliber .338's. More powder to push the .30 cal bullets from a .338 case over a regular magnum face. Less recoil over a .338 lapua. Thats why I would get the .300 Norma. Get the .338 lapua if you truly want it. You will kill plenty of critters with it. I was just giving my opinion.

Why I would pick .300 Norma Mag over .300 PRC.
Unknown Munitions website.
.300NM- 250gr Atip - ADG brass = 2955fps
.300PRC- 250gr Atip - ADG brass = 2800fps
.300NM- 230gr Atip - ADG brass = 3125fps
.300PRC- 230gr Atip - ADG brass = 2915fps

I find them very easy to shoot and they have very little felt recoil considering I'm pushing a 300 grain Berger at 2860 fps. The side port muzzle brake does a great job of taming the recoil in my opinion.

They're straight up standing on these 300nm loads. I shoot an improved 300nn w/ N570 and my 230 loads showed pressure @ 3170 in Lapua brass. That's gotta be hot as hell in standard chamber!

Is this even a real question?

A 308 or a 338 Lapua?

That’s like going car buying and asking if you should buy an f-350 or a Honda Accord.

Get yourself some skills. Caribou, grizz and moose don’t like 243 in the lungs.

Hey Justin,
I'd be curious to hear more of your observations on the 338 MPR after having owned it for a little while. I remember you putting yours together and I'm thinking of doing something similar myself...Did you get it out much in the field? Any issues you've run into with it? There doesn't seem to be much info out there from guys shooting the MPR in that particular chambering.
Thanks!

230s @ 3000 FPS seems about right with RL33 or N570? I had a 27” barrel that would do a little over 3k fps before showing pressure in Norma brass with RL33. It liked h1000 at around 2940 though.
