Was doing some browsing on Netflix's and ran across one of Gordon Eastman's old films from 1968 called: "High, Wild & Free". It chronicles a summer spent in the backcountry of British Columbia. It's filled w/ traditional skills and old school hunting. It brought back a lot of good memories of my childhood packing up in the Eagle Caps of NE. Oregon in the 70's with my family. I highly recommend watching it, well worth your time.
Given the date, I'd have to assume Mike was off in Vietnam during this summer.

Well, I'll have to put that on my list to watch. You mention the Eagle Caps----I have spent some very precious times up there in the Imnaha region.
I used to get dropped camped in that area by Jim Steen.

Ah the Imnaha, the Blue Hole is my second, or 3rd, favorite spot on earth... or at least it was before the burn. In fact I just got back from a week steelhead fishing on the Imnaha. Don't really know Jim, wish I did as I hear he's as big a gun & reloading nut as I am. But I do know his son Shawn and Shelley who have now taken over the guiding biz.

I sure wish Elmer Keith had a film crew in tow for some of his hunts. That is one man I'm sure I'd would've liked.

One of my good buddies, a fellow rifle looney, used to visit Elmer up in Salmon. I love to listen to his stories and I too, would have liked to have known him. We need more folks like him today especially some writers that will tell it like it is.
Shawn used to take us up the east fork of the middle fork of the imnaha along with Jim. It is a very very special place.
