Just curious if there is a "proper" way the rings are designed to face. I have seen them oriented several ways as shown below. Assuming that I don't need to have the rings situated a certain way to have my scope in proper position, does it really matter?

I set mine up to which direction provided the best eye relief. With some scopes it doesn't matter, but with mine I could get my scope farther back with the flat part facing forward.

Don't forget to locktite those screws, they come loose.

Yeah, I've got plenty of play. This was just setting the rings on and the scope is just about perfect here. I do like that the turret module is pretty much centered between the rings. I just don't know if it matters at all.

Not sure if its right but I mounted mine like you have your in the last picture. Worked out good for eye relief and seemed like the spacing supported the scope tube best. Prolly splitting hairs though...

FGS !! if you use Loctite on ring and base screws use the right stuff ! Talleys come with TORX screws and the general consensus is NOT to use anything but a little oil on the threads, Leupold states it in their instructions too - I've drilled out one heck of a lot of ring and base screws , too many were my own .....

If the rings are different Heights “the back one being taller for distance shooting “ then the closer the rear ring is to the front ring, the greater the effect will be “the more elevation adjustment you’ll gain.
