Mounted to a boulder?

I have five trail cameras that I would like to mount in an area that has virtually no trees.
I have seen a few trail cameras in the area in the past. Most are totally unsecured. Never heard of one getting stolen.
Its not a place where people visit often.
Those who do visit don't seem to be the type to haul off someones property.
Still, you never know. It only takes one bad person to ruin your day.

So, I have been thinking about ways to mount and secure a trail camera where no trees are available.

Anybody done this?

I have considered hauling a post to mount the cam, then chaining it to a boulder.
Not ideal. Thats a lot of crap to haul.

I have never had a cam stolen. I use python locks and security boxes. Even though I have never captured a photo of another person on my trail cams. I guess I don't frequent areas of high traffic.

With the wide open spaces that I would like to place these cams, they will be very visible. So, I would like to secure them somehow. Just for peace of mind.

If you're mounting to a big rock I'd take a cordless drill with a concrete bit with a small wedge anchor for a bear box with a lock. Grab a few pieces to shim it straight and a wrench to tighten.

This is exactly what I was thinking, assuming the OP is talking about private ground. I wouldn't go drilling holes on public ground.

I dont know if you guys have 'waratahs' or light steel posts, Y post's.
These can be pretty light and can cut one down and use that, just ban em in the ground with a hammer/rock and wire/attach your camera. I have done this trying to get Tahr on Camera.

I gave up lock boxes and cables. It just made them more visible and if they want them they will still get them. Now I just hide them as best I can and haven't lost one since. They can't steal them if they don't see them. Here is some pics and vids from this year. All cams were hidden and we hunt a popular area.

I've had two cameras and one tree seat stolen in the past few years. Not high traffic areas either, but thats just how it goes sometimes. I like to think karma will take care of them. My go to for cameras lately has been to take a few of the screw in steps for climbing trees and mount the camera up out of reach/view, and also use a camera mount that screws into the tree rather than the strap that is visible from all sides.

Not really sure what I'd do with rocks, but I have seen some guys mount strap them around medium sized rocks. Not neccessarily theft proof, but gets the job done.
