I have an Alcove 2GT and a Hammerhead 3. Both pre-Columbia ownership. The tents seem decent for car camping but just not sure about the weight for packing in. Is a 7lb tent (rainfly, poles and stakes included) considered heavyweight given some of the ultralightweight options out there? What would be your limit on tent weight for a hunt into 35 degree overnights?

Short answer: you want a lighter tent (that takes up less pack space). Pad and sleeping bag are going to be your protection from cold temps, not your tent.

If you were just packing into a spot and base camping, not carrying the tent around everyday, you could manage with one of the tents you already have if you couldn’t responsibly swing buying a new tent.

Yeah that's sort of where I'm thinking of focusing. I have an EMS crash pad which won't offer much protection or insulation. Was considering the pitch lite option of just using the rain fly for weight savings. Gearing up for a trip always turns into considerations, shopping and $$$$.

Check Sierra.com for discounted camping gear. That’s a good spot to start looking for pads and sleeping bags.

Saw a Klymit Static V last time I was in the shop near me. Just looked it up and I can't imagine a 1.3 R-value offering much more protection. I will keep looking around. Great deals from Sierra on stuff though. It's been years since shopping for camping gear. A lot has changed.

Get the insulated static V! I like mine a lot and it was cheap. I have used mine down to zero degrees.

I have ran a MH ghost UL 3(sub 3lbs), since 16. The fly doesn’t go all way to the ground so blowing snow can be a little interesting, but I’ve been in some pretty cold temps with it. With that said I typically switch over to Tut and stove buy late oct

I also run the klymit static v insulated. Ive used it in below freezing temps and have been happy with it. There are warmer pads no doubt. But the price is right. Always a balance. The sea to summit liner is a good purchase as well. Nice to throw in the bag if its gonna be super cold. Not too heavy and doesnt take up much space. Well worth it.
