All-

I will be purchasing a new down bag in the 0-10 degree range. I am trying to get first hand knowledge from MH owners as I have a discount that will save a great deal.

My specific question is-Does the price savings tip the scales enough over a western mountaineering bag?
My goal is to get the best bag regardless of price, but if these two are in the same category, then I’d prefer to save a few bucks.

NOT here to bash or brag on any brand. PM if you prefer.
Thanks

Expertvoice? If so you should check out the Valandre bags on there. Better than the MH bags in every way.

On another note Sneaky-I sent you a PM a few weeks ago...

It's way too big of a tent to ship if you're talking about that wall tent lol

Besides, I figured I would wait as long to respond as you did to the initial post

I am not going to knock MH, but they just don't compare to Western Mountaineering regardless of bag. Very apples and raisins comparison.

they re-designed all the bags last year, not a fan of the new sizing, pretty slim sized IMO

positives are the new upper end bags are using Pertex Y Fuse fabric,(same as stone glacier) and it very water resistant and durable. Over all they are good bags, where as I feel thier past offerings where excellent bags especially the ghost line

please explain the major differences....
Made in the USA would be the first difference... ability to order with overfill would be second... available from 5'6" to 7' lengths...

so if you don’t need a custom size its not leaps and bounds better then the other. Got it

I bought and used the Ratio 15 last season (they had a killer sale going). With a Exped Synmat 7, I was plenty warm into the 20's. At 6'2" 230, it is plenty long, width at the shoulders is adequate, rest of the width is fine. I side sleep and the bag rolls with me, I don't roll inside it. Packs down pretty small as well.

As much as I love having top of the line, a $400+ sleeping bag is not one of them. I'm sure there are differences but as long as I can stay comfortable, dry, and warm...the bag has done its job. Bonus points for being lite but ultimately for me it has to be functional and there are a ton of bags out there that can do that very thing at way under 400+ bones. For God sakes it's not like I'm scaling the Himalayas...lol

But hey if you can afford it then get top of the line, WM is the king of the hill. If I had a disposable income I would do it too. I heard Ryan Avery was handing out bail out checks, so might hit him up first.
You mad at @Ryan Avery because he makes his own money and buys the gear he wants? That's twice you've made remarks complaining about what gear he uses.

Relax Francis, I'm just poking fun.

I honestly wish I could afford half the stuff the rokslide staff gets to use. Can't a guy be a little jealous of the next door neighbors shiny new truck.

Again, just observational humor. Nothing to get wrapped around the axle about.

Well, I have an Ecodiesl that is a great big piece of shit if that makes you feel better. I just picked it up from the shop today. I think the shop might start charging me rent its there so often! The crank sensor went out and they had to pull the tranny to fix it. That was $1,300, then they tell me that my front axels(CV) are ****** and they need to be replaced along with the stub shafts off the diff.....

As for gear, yeah I get some for "free". But the vast majority I buy at full price because it's not worth the hassle if you have to tell a company their free gear sucks. So I have several jobs.:)

I'm dying laughing about the dodge because I've got one too that wife has all but divorced me over the number of recalls I've had on it.

Thanks for being a good sport and for your dedication to sharing the passion for hunting. I appreciate it as do others, as you can tell;)

I had $21,000 in emission warranty work done on it. The day the warranty went so did the emissions. The funny part is I still like the truck but my wife hates it too.

Not hardly, but keep stirring the pot.

So what you actually mean is you don’t or havent used/owned any MH bags to compare to WM. So you shooting from the hip.

obviously I have or I wouldnt be able to note my discontent with the new sizing. Lol.

so when some one puts something on blast it’s nice to know their actual use issues. Or if it’s just a perception
