Do you suggest using the cart that attaches under the seat or using an axle attachment type cart?

I have found some ideas for one I could build that attaches under the seat or there is always the mass produced baby/pet haulers and such that attach to the rear axle.

I have read about a single axle seat post mounted one that I think is made by B.O.B. take a looks at it. Seems to get some significant off road play.

I just looked at those BOB trailers... and about had a stroke. I understand the concept but the price is a little much for me.

Is there an advantage to using axle/ frame mount as opposed to the seat post mounted trailers?

I have used an old bike baby hualer trailer with great success. It just hooks up to the axle. Here is a picture of my buddy pulling it. Nothing special just took everything off and left the frame and added a big plastic tub from walmart. My buddy hualed a whole cow moose with it. View attachment 11716 P9210061.jpg

I also use a baby trailer on mountain bike hunts. If you look hard enough, you can often get them for pretty cheap on Craigslist or at garage sales. It attaches to the axle and works just fine. I don't have any experience with a seat-attaching trailer though.

Manosteel could you try that photo again it isn't showing up. I am interested in seeing the tub.

Thanks Ridge Ghost... There are a few of those for sale near me I can look into.

fillthefreezer could you get a photo of the seat post with heim joint you used?

Luke, I do like the BOB trailer but I can't justify that price. I do like the yoke though and it is $55 online.

Craigslist is your friend ;)

They are spend no double and depending on the trail if its just an old logging road and not a single track or something a simply baby carrier with two wheels might be a more economical option.

Yeah I am not riding anything too technical. No single tracks. Fire roads and even some gravel roads, they are just gated with no motorized access.

I am going to look into the baby carts. Thanks everyone

I also use a child bike trailer. Mine is a Burley I purchased off Craigslist for my boys when they were little. Now works great as a game hauler. This model folds flat and has quick detachable wheels (nice for storage and transport and also easier to fix a flat by removing a wheel without tools). Attaches to the bike at the rear frame, not the axle, and again without tools. Bike can lay flat with the trailer remaining upright (most models do this I believe). Here's a photo.

Luke,
Can you get a whole caribou into one of those Bob trailers? Website only claims 70 lb capacity.

I've had 100 in mine and it did ok...but it was on really a glorified gravel road....on a trail I wouldn't want that much I don't think.

Same story with the kid trailers. Most have a max capacity of 100lbs or less, and I've had loads of elk meat that exceeded that by far. Like Luke said, if it's a decent logging road you'll be fine. Any bumps or potholes will be hard on the trailer with a big load though.
