Anyone been able to do much of a comparison between the old 162 AMax and the ELD (M or X)?
There’s this video, but it’s 6.5.

Was looking for an on game comparison, and that video has no mention of the A-maxThere’s this video, but it’s 6.5.

I have experience with AMAX and ELDM and ELDX. The ELDM is basically an AMAX with a polymer tip, which is an improvement. Was looking for an on game comparison, and that video has no mention of the A-max
You mean the heat shield tip? The Amax has/had a polymer tipI have experience with AMAX and ELDM and ELDX. The ELDM is basically an AMAX with a polymer tip, which is an improvement.
The bottom line is the ELDM is the best bullet on game of those 3, especially after 500 yards. The AMAX occasionally had a habit of failing to upset and expand.
The ELDX is a decent bullet but not is not as "killingest" as an ELDM on game at mid-to-long range. The use-case is where you have very hot velocities and want your bullet to hold together slightly better than ELDM.

My experience reflects this exactly.Couple more for the 180 ELDM.

Originally I loaded 155 hammers for my dad’s 28 Nosler because that’s what he wanted, but then he didn’t like how long animals were living after he tested them on a couple deer and elk.
So I loaded him 180 ELDM’s at 3100fps. Told him he should see a difference…
Him and his buddy both killed their out of state bucks with his gun. At 300 and 400 yards. He said neither of them have ever seen so much damage, or heard that much “pop” on bullet impact hahaha. They come from the Accubond, weight retention era lol
Yeah there’s definitely a noticeable difference on impact, and once you start cutting into the animal. My experience reflects this exactly.
Entrance hole and heart on a 382 yard shot, 2460ish impact velocity, bullet found under offside hide.Yeah there’s definitely a noticeable difference on impact, and once you start cutting into the animal.
Yeah, that’ll work hahahaEntrance hole and heart on a 382 yard shot, 2460ish impact velocity, bullet found under offside hide.
