Most Cost Effective Back Packing Scope?

Spoke with Doug with Cameraland and he recommended the Kowa tsn-501 for my needs. 20-40x50 at only 14 ounces

I run the Kowa tsn 501 and love it. I have used the Nikon ED 50 and the Razor 50 and enjoy the Kowa a lot better! Plus I get extra power

Man I'm leaning towards the Kowa right now too. A little extra oomph of magnification and 11.5 oz lighter vs the Razor 11-33 I had my heart set on.

Doug did say that the razor is optically better(HD glass) but is 2x or more of the price and weights more

I bought the Kowa tsn-501 from Doug a few months ago and then think it's awesome! I used it to get a better look at game I found with my binos. Good price and super light and small.

Here is my question. I have a Cabelas Krotos 15x45x65. I bought it to try out but could return it. I'm debating the advantages of the bigger scope versus the lighter models.

In my area of Alaska a moose needs 4 brow tines or 50 inch antlers to be legal. I plan to hunt an area where its possible to see moose several miles away.

How much would I give up if I swapped the Krotos 15x45 for either the Hawke 50mm or the Kowa TSN 501? I simply don't have the budget to buy a $1000 scope or multiple scopes. It will be either the Krotos or something else sub $500.

Thoughts? I do have solid binoculars so that is covered.

Its an awesome little spotter for it's purpose. My daughter has one and it is clear and weighs next to nothing. Good choice.

Plenty of japanese dealers selling Nikon ed50 for $299

even if you add a eyepiece you can go out the door around $450, for a proven performer with accolades from various hobbies that use optics
