I won a Mossberg Patriot chambered in .300 Win Mag. Never owned/shot a Mossberg rifle and am curious if anyone has experience with this setup.

I bought my son a Mossberg ATR youth rifle in 7mm-08 about 5 years ago. I think the ATR is a predecessor to the Patriot. His shoots well, has an acceptable trigger, and a decent walnut stock (with kinda 70s style cheap pressed checkering). For $325 brand new his is a solid rifle in my book - I thumped a coyote with it last year.....

I broke the barrel in over the weekend and am handloading some rounds for it this week. Curious to see how it shoots but I couldn't beat the price!

I've got one in .308, and its been dependable and accurate for me. I've killed a few deer with it, and it has handled several backpack hunts well. I did a rattle can camo job on mine. I half expected it to have durability issues because of the sub $300 price tag, but so far so good. My biggest gripe is the magazine, which is reminiscent of a NERF gun part. I wouldn't take it on a once in a lifetime hunt, but with handloads mine will do a 1.1 inch 5 shot group.

My bro or has one, it shoots well but past that it’s not something that I’d considered “nice”. As a utilitarian rifle, sure.
