A while back I brought up what apps were best for beginners to the long range game and I paid for what seemed to be the top 3 responses from the rokslide crew. I have began playing with them but now I need some more input.
This started as a budget build for a rem 700 BDL in 300 win that I was going to shoot steel with and hunt with rarley from time to time.... I had no intention of getting too wild with it but I never seem to half ass do something.
I ended up getting handed down a bunch of reloading stuff that I have yet to dig into and that's an entirely other thing to play with but it helped me jump into this even more.
So now my budget gun is laid out on a XLR element chassis. The plan is to add a better trigger and then chop the barrel and suppress it.... then shoot the hell out of it. Eventually upgrade to some of the lighter weight pieces for my XLR. Then when its ready for a barrel I'm thinking 300 PRC. I live in rural utah along the colorado border. I have places to shoot farther than I'm capable within a short drive from my back door. I want to bang some steel at 1k+ but dont plan to shoot elk too crazy far. I've killed elk with my 2506 in one shot at 420 but generally hunt with a bow and have gone to a recurve so I'm even more limited. I'm thinking a 6-700 yard shot as my theoretical max effective if I can do my part. (I know that's asking alot)
Now...... laying out my current plan here is where I really need input.
How short is too short for a 300 win barrel and what suppressor should I consider?
It is a 26" barrel and I debated chopping clear to a 20" but think maybe that's going a little too far.
Surpessor wise I was looking at the YHM resonator K as it seems to be a great bang for your buck can based off reviews. But I also thought about getting the gun works 6ix and just knowing I'm gold from then on.
I have 3 young boys at home who want to hunt and so I really want to work on a suppressor that I can use on all my guns just to help with the noise element. Add in the fact I think the gov will try to outlaw them sooner I want to get this process done.
I feel like there is a lot to process here so I'll stop now ha
