Hey everyone! Looking to potentially travel out to Montana the first week of June in 2025 with my daughters for a spring rifle black bear hunt. I backpack hunt for elk each year in the fall, and they've been backpacking with me in CO in the summer, so they know how to hike w a pack and set up camp. They're accomplished whitetail hunters here in Ohio, each having killed a few bucks nicer than I have, and plenty of does for the freezer. They've always wanted to come on an Elk hunt with me, but fall school/sports makes it difficult. They aren't playing spring sports this year, and school ends May 29th. I figure we could haul out to Montana and get a good hunt in the backcountry together. More for the experience, but a couple bears would be amazing. I would prefer to set up a wall tent at a trail head and spike out with light gear from there. Give us a place to come back to and get dry after a couple days if needed. Any recommendations? I looked at bear unit 400 south of Lewiston in the Big Snowies. I'm actually planning an elk hunt there in 2026, so it could serve me well there also. Any advice on that area would be greatly appreciated! I know we will make memories regardless of if we take an animal or not!
Thanks in advance.

Hey there,

I am planning an incredibly similar hunt with my brother in the same unit actually. I just posted a thread as well, as I didn't see yours, but I hope there is some locals that could give us some advice.

Good luck to you and your daughters, I hope to hear of a success story come June.
