Montana special draw unit 652 pointers

I was lucky enough to draw a mule deer tag in unit 652 this coming year. I’ve never hunted around it, and since it’s a special permit unit, was wondering if anyone might share some knowledge on rough whereabouts to go, or even deer that came out of the unit. You can keep locations private and I won’t be offended haha

My "backyard". It's a really fun unit to hunt, nice country, mostly public, very scenic badlands, with a good number of mule deer throughout the entire unit...
If I were you, I'd scout it in August when the bucks are in groups. Lot's of access points from Highway 24, on the east side.

I've hunted it 5-6 times with friends with tags and myself twice. Lots of big country. Seen some dandies' there and my friend drew the tag this year too which is nice because he has a cabin at Rock Creek so we can stay there and hunt from there

How far away do you live to the unit? I drive out and take a look for yourself.

I live about 5 hours from there. My work schedule doesn’t allow for too much scouting time if I am going to take off time to hunt the unit in rifle season

I drew this tag this year as well. Hunted it with a buddy last year for a few days but it was blizzarding and fogged in the whole time so really don't know much about the unit. Looking forward to it though!

I got stuck immediately up there in the gumbo, so I just hunted from where I was stuck. Ended up with a decent 5 1/2 year old buck that was 27 1/2 inches wide.

I've been up in 621 hunting elk before when it rained. If you don't get out before the moisture, you might not.

I got out after 2 nights, the roads finally froze and I got out pretty easy

Same. Had to leave at 3:00 am once while the roads were partly frozen over. Only way out sometimes.
