Montana shed hunting with the light winter

Dogs have already picked up a few fresh white tail sheds this winter on our property. Was hoping for a moose paddle, but still searching. I know it’s somewhere out there. IMG_6315.jpeg

found a big deadhead this weekend checking my bear canyon.
no bear sign yet, but the mule deer look healthy. with all the wind we've had, there are thousands of trees down which the deer and moose will eat till things green up.
grass starting to grow in a few places too.

Stumbled upon an elk shed 4 miles into the BC near Yellowstone yesterday while fishing. I left it there if you want to go look for it. Also stumbled upon the biggest griz tracks I've ever seen, leading to a muskrat den that looked like it had been torn up by a full size excavator. The bears are awake for sure

First off. this years "winter range" is everywhere.( sheds are spread) Second, I asked the fatty elk and deer this spring, and they said they don't love being shot in the fall either. so whatever. I'm just a hooligan I guess. To really answer your question. I have seen fresh elk sheds as early as Feb. 1.( elk side by side set.) Everything else in the woods even earlier.
