Try to avoid any montana outfitter that hunts public land. Especially in the NW portion of the state. That area is infested with wolves. Public gets hammered. Private, private and more private is the way to go outfitted in Montana. Good luck in NM.

If you are DIY you will be fine. Because a high chance of failure has already been accounted for. If you are paying an outfitter to hunt public in NW MT, you are wasting your time and your money and your sarcasm.

Well I don’t know where to go or begin to navigate 480,000 acres of public land. I know some guys who were successful this past season. Saw plenty of bulls dally in NW MT. Maybe their guides know what they are doing

There are plenty of private land elk in NW Montana. Maybe they hunted near some borders. However, Undoubtably there are much better guides than cody carrs outfit. So it was probably one of them.

I'm booked for Sept 13-18 2026. As of yesterday there was one slot left. I called a lot of references and many are repeat patrons. Do you have any preference points yet?

From what I have read as long as you keep applying each year they roll over. Miss a year and it re sets? I've called over 20 references and everyone has been going for many many years. I get bad reviews from other jealous business owners in our line of work. All false. I ask for proof of training classes or events they had been too and I would refund their money. Not once has anyone provided a Paypal receipt to prove they attended my course. I'll listen to the references over someone not responding to questions of why xyz sucks. I asked over a week ago. Crickets.
