I'm gonna be going to college at Montana state next year and was wondering what Montana has for over the counter tags. I looked on the Montana fish and wildlife website but couldn't understand it. Any information will help thanks

As long as you are a full time student, you will qualify for a student rate sportsman package. That includes a general deer and elk tag. Over the counter you can buy bear, lion and wolf tags. You can also buy elk b and deer b tags for specific districts. The b tags are antler less only and are in addition to the general tags. There are other over the counter for migratory birds. Antelope though are draw only.

Will you become a resident? If not, you would have to pay out of state rates for over the counter tags. The only discount you get is for the general elk and deer.

Becoming a resident is pretty painless, you just go and get a driver's license. 6 months later you are a resident for hunting purposes. Of course I don't know how that would effect you for taxation purposes.
