I carry both.

I've tried to empty a clip or two as fast as possible into a rather large target at relatively close range before. Such results don't give me a whole lot of confidence to use a pistol without getting chewed up.

That said, I know there's 13 rounds of 255gr hardcast 45 ACP ready to roll if one ever does get me on the ground. I won't miss when I stick the barrel against its ribs.

Don't do any of this. Make your first and second shots count. In order to do that you will need to spend a lot of time on the range learning how to acquire your front sight while presenting the weapon to the target. Spray and pray should never be your first option. You may also need to change your sights. most pistols come with sights that are not suitable for close quarters combat and fast sight acquisition.

When younger I was a mediocre pistol shot. Three semesters in college on a pistol range with a .22 for a PE elective changed everything. It took two months of twice a week shooting to learn how to shoot a pistol.

You can keep grizz country. Don't know if I'd get out of the pickup without a big bore rifle or 12ga loaded with slugs.

I read a comment somewhere about a pistol vs rifle in grizzly country debate. One guy said it was a long gun or nothing. Said he didn't carry a pistol because he didn't want to die with his ears ringing.

This is a debate that will see the end of time. Just as in handgun use against humans, there is a big difference between lethality and incapacitation. Street crackhead or grizzly bear it doesn't really matter if they are going to die or stop in a minute or two while they are putting you in a world of hurt. Bear spray isn't nearly as sexy as my 629 but if I had to choose one, it would be bear spray.

That griz attack survivor is harder than woodpecker lips on ice.
