Unfortunately it is probably a bureaucrat that messed things up again. They'll have a good laugh as they eat their morning donuts and nothing will happen. Our government has no repercussions or responsibility for any mistakes anymore.
I almost choked when I started reading the email last night, as I have a goat permit as a non resident this year. I was so thankful when I realized it wasn't me, but can imagine the heartbreak for those affected.
Heads should roll and someone should be fired.

You mean get promoted

Just about every single night on our local news (4 different stations) they have misspellings that they put up on the air. So a numbers mistake? Ya I can see it......seems like more folks have trouble with numbers and math than they do spelling even.

I've drawn one bull elk tag in my entire life and lost it when Washington had the same type of fiasco. This took place around 2007 and I am still mad about it......and still can't draw a bull tag.

Everyone knows 2+2=5 . This is what happens when a society abandons meritocracy . Seems to be a yearly thing with montana fwp

Such an embarrassment. So few have pride in their work these days. No one seems to check their own work and most supervisors don’t have the knowledge to check their employees. And sadly as government employees, there will be no consequences for anyone but those getting precious sheep tags ripped out of their hands. It’s criminal.

These people working at FWP aren't the government. They are the same folks that you stand next to at the grocery store, hoping they can pay their bills.

More than likely it's an underpaid admin assistant that's making $18 an hour and could likely make the same money at McDonald's.

They won't be disciplined because the agency is likely lucky they have a warm body inputting any data. There's a very good chance that with 6 months experience, they have nearly as much experience as anyone in the office.

In addition most state offices in MT are understaffed for a couple reasons. First, people don't want to work, and second, Montana is still operating on 2014 wage rates and so far behind the private sector, especially in the current economy, that there's no catching up.

There's still no excuse for the error. It should have been double checked, but it wasn't made by some bureaucrat eating donuts.

This is probably a very accurate explanation of what happened. Montana pays horribly for government jobs- look at DNRC firefighters making $15.50/hr. Then they wonder why they are understaffed and have to bring in private crews on EMACs contracts.

Oh man! I remember that like it was yesterday. A friend I worked with drew a highly coveted bull tag that year here only to learn, HAHA just kidding and lost it too. He has never drawn another. I feel for you as I now have 20 points and have never drawn.

I did just see where 1 extra sheep tag and 2 moose tags that were drawn in MT will be honored.

I should add to my above statement that I'd be pissed if I found out that a tag that I was going excited about was a mistake. A coworker and I discussed it today and he was just glad it wasn't bull tags because he drew a good Breaks bull tag.

I could be mistaken, but I'd be willing to bet that the draw process is stressful as hell for those folks responsible for it. I'm sure they catch hell from every direction and only a few are ever happy with the results.

I'd still be pissed if I was caught up in it but this idea that the problem is a bunch of lazy folks with their feet up drinking coffee and eating donuts is not accurate.

I received the dreaded call on Friday. I'm frustrated about the whole debacle as it was completely preventable. I was told it was "the software program." Bad data input and bad data output. My tag has already been delivered to me, and the poor sap who called me told me a pre-paid return envelope is being sent to me to return my tag. I told him it's my tag, and I'm keeping it, and I'm going hunting (jokingly). He stammered a bit and told me that's not a good idea.

I have an arid sense of humor, so I'm going to notch my tag on April Fool's Day before I return it. A bit childish, but WTH.

I love the notched tag idea! Sorry you were one of the unlucky false alarms.

Ignoring the phone call and return envelope, and using the tag would make for an interesting legal case.

Not even something to entertain, that's for sure. One would imagine that there will be extra patrols in these areas by the game wardens.

"My returned tag must have gotten lost in the mail."

I don’t blame you, neither would I! That said I’d love for someone to call their bluff to see how it would go down.

Montana is the only state that is consistent...consistently messing up the draw. Last year it was elk.

As Jerry Seinfeld said, "And you want to be my latex salesman..."

They can't even pull off a computerized draw without problems. Gives us all a lot of faith that they are effectively managing game...

I believe you have to present sheep and goat skulls to FWP after harvesting.

+1 on keeping the tag and framing it. I’d not try to hunt on it but there is no way that is leaving my possession. They could take me to court if they wanted…

Very well said. For those complaining fwp has a ton of jobs posted on their website, feel free to apply if you’re so confident you can fix the issues you have. The wages aren’t great.
