Logan T, what stage of the rut do you think these bulls are in? It seems odd that two large bulls would be together during or immediately after the rut...unless those are satellites in your area. If they are, do you need a hunting partner next year!? :)

The elk where I took this are on the tail end of 1st cycle here but Bulls are still going crazy. There were a few herd Bulls with cows the 1st of September but all hell broke loose with the rut around the 10th. These are actually satellite bulls.

Thanks for the info and the great picture! Looking forward to viewing a scene like that in person next year.

Great photo Logan! If those are satellites I want to see the herd bull :)

If I can find them when I go out in a couple days I will try to get a descent pic of the big bulls. I've got a lot of time behind the glass this fall looking at some studs. I moved in June and I don't have a tag for this area as it is special draw but my one of my boss's daughters does so I've been keeping a safe distance till rifle opens up. Hopefully I'll get film of a 380+ bull hitting the dirt in a few weeks if he doesn't disappear or get killed.

This is the first year since I could hunt at age 12 that I have not been able to chase elk with my bow and its driving me crazy!!! I've had 6 weddings I had to go to or be in over the summer/fall with the last one coming a week from today. With the new job my darned friends ate up all my time off!! Can't wait to get out and chase them with my rifle back home. Elk here are in trouble next year though!!!

Your good elk karma is growing at an incredible pace "passing" on these bulls haha. You will be slayin next september :) I wish the bulls were still talking in NW MT. Seeing your pictures gets me excited to give it one last push this archery season though!

It seems like I was in the wrong place this year for elk in Montana. Didn't see hardly any elk, and when I did they were usually moving out pretty quickly. The bulls weren't talking much either. The first and second weeks were completely opposite weather wise as well, which didn't help. I've got a few places I'd like to check out next year that I don't think guys with quads can get into either.

Anyone have any luck this weekend?

Our third child wouldnt wait till bow season was over and came two weeks early. Glad hes here and healthy but missing out on the end of the season here has got me itching to know what the elk ended up doing in my area. Interesting stuff about the little belts there.

Our area is kind of the same deal. we hike a mile and a half in and start calling and had a lot of great action. The elk were probably 3 miles in. Problem with elk hunting is sept-nov is my best season for work too. Phone ringing off the hook and dragging me away from hunting.

Lots of bugling and elk around yesterday near Helena but the wind was pretty bad, not to mention very hot out. One more weekend then breaking out the "longbow".
