Montana Elk Tag

For $1000 they can't spring for Tyvek? We called and asked if we could photocopy on to Tyvek....hard no.
I cut mine apart and put clear packing tape on both sides.
If you opt to print yourself, you can print on waterproof paper. One of our local sporting goods does that for folks that purchase license there. Print yourself may not be an option for NR.

I've went E tags and it worked great in turkey season.

The old machines were outdated and couldn't be serviced anymore. An upgrade/replacement was going to be a huge sum of money (think statewide for all vendors). A lot of states are going E tags, that's the route that's been chosen. The paper tags are part of the transition.

Paper tags and no harvest reporting... SMH... What is this 1980? Kept mine in sandwich baggy in my bino harness last fall. Drove out the state with big old rack hanging out of pickup and didn't have to check or report a thing. Crazy.
Etags solve that. You validate the tag and as soon as you have signal, fwp gets the info.

From what I have been told, MT FWP is replacing all of their printing systems and the project is taking longer than expected. The regular paper tags are temporary and they expect the hunter to carry a plastic sandwich type bag to put the tag in after validating, before attaching to the animal. I was told that by next season, the new system should be up and running. This is the same process as last year.
I may be mistaken but that isn't what I've heard. There is no "replacement". E tags are what we are transitioning to. Maybe I'm wrong.

In Iowa we've had both for a while now. Face to face purchases have been on waterproof for probably 15 years. E-tags have been available for a long time as well, and text harvest reporting came out a couple years ago.

E-tags were going to be an "option" but, not the "only" way. Remember, not everyone is walking around with smart-phones and has computers in Montana. Let's of folks I know that do not own a computer. We're still pretty rural here.

Absolutely correct and keep MT rural. :) I think paper copies are the option. There is no plan for new machines as far as I know but maybe that's changed. I believe the standard printer or E tags are the options. I went E tags because I didn't like the plain paper option it's worked good so far.

The big surprise lots of hunters get is when they look at a Montana license and read the dates it’s valid for. They don’t include archery even though it’s good for bow and gun. After being asked that question for over 20 years you’d think they add that. Oh wait it’s Montana they gotta leave you guessing.
I was under that impression, so I would only need to add the “Bow and Arrow” license for $10?

I would also need to hunt the AO season that ends on 10/16 or in the pictured zone have a B License to hunt up to rifle on 10/22 correct?

I can’t see the headings of each column but the General elk license is good for all of archery and rifle. Archery ends on 10/16 and there is no hunting on any of those licenses from 10/16 to 10/21 other than cows only on the 213-00 license. From the image you posted I can’t tell which weapon is legal during those dates.

Yes you need an archery stamp to hunt during the archery only season. I’m going to assume it’s archery equipment.

I changed to the MT FWP app and my license and tags on on my phone. Simply push a button on the app to validate tag upon harvest. I miss cutting the notches out of a paper tag but the convienience is also nice.
