So long winded question. I day hunt mostly sage flats for mule deer and antelope. I have a 65mm Razor that I seldom carry when hunting because of the weight of the spotter combined with a tripod is a little over 5.5 lbs. Once scouting is done and we are on to the hunt we spend most of the time moving with short glassing intervals using binoculars. I do occasionally want to get a quick better look at something than I can with my 10x42 binoculars. I picked up a Hawke 50mm spotter and am thinking of picking up a monopod to get a quick look when needed. This would not be used for picking apart country but just to verify what I am looking at. Ideally I would want something that sets up very quickly and weighs about 1 lb. with a quick release. Most height I would go to is a kneeling position but more likely seated. Possibly looking at one that could have the three feet added to the bottom to give a little stability to it. Has anyone tried something like this? Any suggestions on brand? Looking to spend under $100 if possible but would go to $150 for the perfect item.
For reference I have used the 65mm balanced on my pack and it works up to about 30x, after that it is impossible to keep it steady enough to see anything through. I would continue to do this but it is not very quick to do with having to remove the pack and get everything just right.
Also, I don't use trekking poles when hunting out of the mountains or I would just modify them.
Thank you
