MODS: Why am I suddenly receiving emails when a thread is updated, yet I have email notification disabled?????

I do not think it's anything I did as it just started happening within the past couple days and with few exceptions, I disable notifications when watching a thread.

By chance did you turn on browser notifications from your browser? There’s some email notifications that are set to on by default, threads you started, watched forums, pm messages. You can (and might have) turned it on for when you’re quoted or other specific situations.
